Since 1982, Portland Waldorf School has been shaped by the dedication and vision of families who believed in creating a lasting home for our children. After two decades in multiple locations, our community came together in 2002 to purchase and lovingly transform our Milwaukie campus into the beautiful seven-acre home we steward today. Among its most cherished spaces is our big field—a place of spirited games, after-school athletics, imaginative play, and daily recess. During the driest stretch of summer and early fall, it serves our students beautifully. But here in the Pacific Northwest, those dry months are fleeting. For much of the school year, persistent stormwater and drainage issues leave the field saturated, muddy, and uneven—limiting play and creating frustrating interruptions to the outdoor experiences that are so central to Waldorf education.

Thanks to a grant, we are able to take the essential first step toward a lasting solution: comprehensive site investigation, engineering design, and full permitting with the City and DEQ to address and redesign the field’s stormwater and drainage systems. This professional planning work will give us a clear, thoughtful path forward. Once the design and permits are complete, however, we must raise the funds to bring the project to life—installing the drainage improvements that will restore safe, reliable access to this vital outdoor space. We invite you to help us renew and protect our field, ensuring it can sustain joyful play, healthy movement, and community connection through every season of the year.
